I’m not really quite sure how I feel about May J.’s third album for you, well not really, I can say it doesn’t really do much for me. I like listening to an album in once it’s over knowing off grip which track I liked, disliked, whatever. However, when you have an album that plays an none of the songs really distinguish themselves from the next, it’s hard to really critic them. You’re going to end up having to re-listen. I don’t like that, I want something to stand out to me and be memorable. I do like this sound, it suits her and her voice is pretty good. Even so, I just see her as another version of BENI; A lot of times while I was listening to this I thought I was listening to BENI. The only song that really stood out and I gave a 3 star to was Beautiful Days, but that isn’t really saying much. An OK album from her, but possibly a step down from her second album.

I’m not really sure how I feel about May J.’s sophomore album FAMILY. On one hand it’s better than it could have been, but on the other hand it just doesn’t really stand out. You’re suppose to take your first album and expand on it with your second and so on and so forth, that’s not the case with this album. I actually like Baby Girl more than this. May J. switches from the rnb sound of her mini and debut album to a more soft-pop sound. I do like her voice as she reminds me of an alternate version of BENI. Garden has always been a favorite of mine, but it’s the only track that really stands out out. Well… that and the DAISHI DANCE remix of Crescent Moon. The others aren’t bad, but other than nice vocals from May they don’t really stick to me as to where I can remember them without listening to ’em again. It’s an alright follow-up, but a definite step-down from her debut.

I was into May J. a long time ago and kinda lost interest in her. I got curious about her a year ago because I was very surprised that she was still releasing music (a lot of artists like her disappear after awhile). I picked her back up last year and shockingly find that I am really enjoying her albums moreso than I thought I would. Baby Girl is her debut album; she was more of an RnB artist when she first came out then changed her sound to pop around her sophomore album. Baby Girl is actually pretty good for a debut, with some real hidden gems on it. May J.’s voice is really nice too. I honestly thought I would get bored with her new sound and drop her, but just like with BENI I like it and it suits her more, I believe. I do miss this nice rnb sound from her, however I do think that her switching up her style was a good move. Rnb tends to get a bit stale if you don’t shake it up.
