thoughts.
I almost wanted to take back what I said about Seiko when I reviewed her third album, almost. Wind Stand is her fourth album and it is terribly bland; very simple even for early 80’s standards. The only track that really stood out to me was Kaze Tachinu, which was so surprisingly good, it stood out like a sore thumb in comparison to the other tracks. Average singing at best, but not bad. I just wish she would have did more, or maybe sung a little stronger. It just seemed like she was going through the motions. I did like how she ended Issen Ichibyou Monogatari. Those are the little vocal moments I like from her, because when she tries her voice is actually quite pretty. OK album, a step down from her third album though.

I wasn’t really all that impressed with Seiko when I first started listening to her albums. It’s like I go through a phase where I don’t understand the hype surrounding certain things or people. I’m like, Forever Idol with such an average voice? I’ve warmed up to her though, and actually quite like her voice. It’s nothing special, but it can be nice at times in suits her. Silhouette is her third album an it’s pretty simple, screams early 80’s, though makes me think of the 70’s because it has such an innocent sound to it. None of the tracks really jumped out at me, but they weren’t bad. An album I can put on and listen to without skipping a track (I might skip Cherry Blossom…), though I will say the closest song that came to getting a 3 was Sailing and maybe ~Orange no Kaori~ Summer Beach.

I’m pleasantly surprised with Seiko Matsuda’s second album North Wind. I don’t remember liking it this much when I first listened to it, that’s why I’m glad I always re-listen to them before I review them. With that said even though I gave the majority of the tracks on here a fair rating, they were still nice. I give 3’s to songs that stand out, or really stick with me, so if a song get’s a two it doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t a good song. Seiko’s voice was really nice on this album. I thought her voice was tragically mediocre on her debut, but this time around it’s so pleasant. The stand out track on this album is Only My Love, it was quite good and that note toward the end gave me life. I also enjoyed Shinayaka na Yoru, a slow burn of a ballad, but she sung it well and with emotion. I hope the rest will play this well, because I honestly wasn’t feeling her earlier albumsyet the deeper I go through her disco the more I get why she was so huge in the 80’s and 90’s.

Seiko Matsuda’s debut album SQUALL is pretty uneventful. This is one of those albums in which I come across that I neither like or dislike I just feel like it’s OK, I guess. I don’t know how I feel about Seiko because I always feel indifferent after listening to her albums. She’s the Forever Idol, but her voice is incredibly mediocre to me. It’s not bad, I’ve heard worse and it’s not even one of those voices that’s an acquired taste, it’s just bland and can be nice depending on what song it is and how she is singing it. SQUALL is very forgettable. I won’t say it’s bad ’cause the songs are decent for the time period they were released in (early 80’s) and the sound Seiko was going for. It’s more like lukewarm water, kinda not what I was aiming for; I wanted my water to be a little warmer, but whatever.
