I think… maybe I’m a little unimpressed with JJ Lin’s second album Second Heaven. I wasn’t blown away by his first, but it had a quiet charm to it that I liked. This one isn’t bad by any means, it’s just I felt like it could have given me more. X out the first two underwhelming songs (they aren’t bad, just the others are better) in I quite enjoyed the tracks on here. I believe what I liked the most especially with songs like River South, Afraid, Spirit and Mermaid is that the songs really do sound like the titles. I felt like I was rowing down the river south, and afraid of my feelings an so on and so forth. It’s like I could picture what he was singing even though I don’t understand the lyrics. JJ’s voice is nice as usual and this was a decent second album. Afraid also makes me think of Jay Chou’s Silence.
