I really liked Shimatani Hitomi when I first got into her music, then when Flare was released I literally stopped listening to her for a few years. And it was solely because of how utterly disappointed I was with it compared to her previous album (I will talk about that later when I get around to reviewing it). PAPILLION is her debut album and the title track I believe is a cover of Janet Jackson’s Doesn’t Really Matter. It’s not bad and is probably my second least favorite album from her, after Flare. Which isn’t saying much. Shimatani’s voice is pleasant and the Spanish influence of the songs really suit her and made this album a little more interesting than it would have been, had she not decided to spice it up a little. It is a bit bland, especially after repeated listens but the songs, a majority of them, are good and well sung.
